چکیده

Materials and methods: Sixty Holstein dairy cows (parity 1-8) in overall general good health were identified as having claw-related LAMENESS that was divided into four categories; pododermatitis septica (PS; n = 41), pododermatitis circumscripta (PC; n = 8), interdigital necrobacillosis (IN; n = 7), papillomatous digital dermatitis (PDD; n = 4). Another 10 cows also in good general heath were randomly chosen as controls. Lame animals were treated immediately after diagnosis using standard of care treatment protocols; no anti-inflammatory drugs were given. None of the control cows received any treatments. Blood samples were collected by coccygeal venipuncture at initial diagnosis but before treatment (day 1), and on days 3 and 5 thereafter. HB concentration was measured in serum by means of radial immunodiffusion assay. Data were analyzed using Friedman, Wilcoxon signed ranks, and Pearson's chi-square tests.

Claw Lesions Causing Clinical Lameness in Lactating Holstein Frisian Crossbred Cows

The objective of this study was to identify claw lesions causing clinical lameness in lactating Holstein Frisian (HF) crossbred cows in dairy cattle. Seventy dairy farmers were interviewed at the monthly meetings of Progressive Dairy Farmers Association of Ludhiana, Punjab, India. Ten dairy farms were randomly selected as per probability proportional to size and a total of 450 lactating HF cros...

Conformation of hind legs and lameness in Danish Holstein heifers.

Lameness causes major financial losses and welfare problems in dairy herds. Prevention of foot lesions may suffice in the majority of lameness cases. The objectives of this longitudinal study were to describe the dynamics and associations between abnormal hind leg conformation, asymmetric claws, lameness, and foot lesions in 122 Danish Holstein heifers from an average of 41 d before first calvi...

Claw and limb disorders in 12 Norwegian beef-cow herds

BACKGROUND The main aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of claw and limb disorders in Norwegian beef-cow herds. METHODS Twenty-six herds with >or=15 cow-years were selected by computerized systematic assignment from the three most beef cattle-dense regions of Norway. The study population consisted of 12 herds with 28 heifers and 334 cows. The animals were trimmed and examined once b...

Lameness in dairy cattle: A debilitating disease or a disease of debilitated cattle? A cross-sectional study of lameness prevalence and thickness of the digital cushion.

Lameness is the most significant challenge for the dairy industry to overcome, given its obvious disruption of animal welfare and severe economic losses. Sole ulcers and white line abscesses are ubiquitous chronic diseases with the highest associated economic losses among all foot lesions. Their underlying causes are still not fully understood. An observational cross-sectional study was carried...

Assessment of the serum zinc, copper, β-carotene and vitamin A and hoof zinc and copper status in different locomotion scores of dairy cattle

Serum level of zinc, copper, β-carotene, vitamin A, and concentrations of Zn and Cu in hoof of 97multiparous Holstein dairy cows with different locomotion scores (LSs) were evaluated. Simultaneously, Znand Cu concentrations of close up, fresh and high yielding cattle rations were 77, 94, 75 and 31, 28, 22 ppm, respectively. Based on LSs, despite normal serum copper levels in all three groups, w...
